Borderlands 3 Roadmap For 2020 and 2021 » Game Horizons
BORDERLANDS 3 FOR 2020 AND 2021 ROADMAP OVERVIEW
A lot of brand new content for Borderlands 3 has already been released this year by Gearbox Software and 2 K Games. That said, 2020 isn’t over yet and as we are diving into year 2 for Borderlands 3, there is still a bunch of content coming your way.
DLC 6: CUT OF THE DIRECTOR
‘Director’s Cut’ is the 6th DLC and is scheduled to be released in Spring 2021. What this add-on will provide is currently not known. For future updates, stay tuned.
CROSSPLAY —
Gearbox Software said they were committed to Crossplay before Borderlands 3 ‘s release. 2 K Games says this is still the case in a press release and it’s scheduled for 2021.
COMING TO NEXT-GEN CONSOLES BORDERLANDS 3
At PAX Online, Gearbox Software and 2 K Games announced that Borderlands 3 will be coming to the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. You will receive a free upgrade if you already own the game in your console family.
DLC 5: NEW MODE OF SKILL TREES & GAME
All the Vault Hunters are going to get a 4th Skill Tree that also includes a new Skill for Action. This is a premium DLC and must be separately purchased. A new game mode will also be included with this content pack. During the Borderlands Show, more information will be shown.
SPLITSCREEN VERTICAL
The BL3 versions of the PS5 and Xbox Series X will get a vertical split-screen. This feature will also be included in a future patch for the PS4 and Xbox One.
Further DLC Beyond DLC4!!!
Randy Pitchford spoke of more additional content coming beyond DLC4 to Borderlands 3. While there hasn’t been an official 2 K announcement yet, Randy said they’re almost ready to talk about it in more depth. TUNED STAY!!!
KRIEG-BORDERLANDS 3 DLC4
This year, Gearbox Software is going to supply the remaining season pass content. The season pass would include 4 add-ons to the storey campaign, and we’ve already received Moxxi’s Heist on Handsome Jackpot, Wainwright & Hammerlock ‘s Marriage, and Blood Bounty. That means we still have 1 more add-ons for Story Campaigns to look forward to. There is now no official release date for it, but we know that by September 2020 all the season pass content will be delivered. And it is fairly accurate to look at the previous DLC releases that are 3 months apart from the release schedule. We are probably looking at a September release for DLC4, as Bounty of Blood was released in June.
- Randy Pitchford suggested that Pandora (Krieg) was going inside the mind of the most badass psycho.
- During episode seven of the Borderlands Show, a new teaser for DLC4 was shown.
ENHANCEMENTS FROM GAME
The game continues to be updated by Gearbox Software with improvements and bug fixes. Please contact support.2k.com if you have any serious problems.
Alterations in Weapon and Character Balance
In their game, GBX aims to have a wide variety of builds and doesn’t want 1 build to control them all.
Reworked Sources of Loot
In a future patch, the named enemy loot pools will be spread out.
Using Eridium
Upon completion of that specific mission, the Veteran Rewards machine will have quest rewards
As the legendary drop rate increases, the Eridian Fabricator will consume more Eridium with each shot.
EVENTS OF SEASON
While no new seasonal events have been announced by Gearbox or 2 K, we are likely to see old events making a return. It wouldn’t surprise me if we were to see the return of the Bloody Harvest Event. You probably want to get your hands on the Ghast Call at the max level.
CARACTERS EXPANDING
While new Vault Hunters have always received prior Borderlands games as post-launch content. In Borderlands 3, Gearbox Software will deviate from that. The majority of players stick with their first Vault Hunter, according to the data, and don’t play with the remaining characters. Therefore, Randy Pitchford mentioned on Twitter that the current characters would like to be expanded. Give them fresh ways of playing. By adding new gear to the game or adding new action skills and skill trees to the current Vault Hunters, they can do this.
INCREASE OF LEVEL CAP
In the course of the game’s life-span, we have received a few level cap increases. There have been no announcements about a future increase in the level cap, but the developers have said that it is nice to have a new level cap with new playable content. Since a fourth storey campaign is still on the horizon, it could be the case that the level cap will increase again.
- You can level up to level 53 from the February 13th patch (1 Skill Point Avoided From Reaching 2 Capstone Skills)
- You can level up to level 57 (Release DL2) from the March 26th patch.
- You can level up to level 60 (Release DLC3) from the 25th of June patch.

BLOOD ‘S BOUNTY: A FISTFUL OF REDEMPTION
The third-story campaign add-on for Borderlands 3 is Bounty of Blood: A Fistful of Redemption. It is a Western-inspired storey campaign to be launched on June 25 , 2020.

TAKEDOWN GUARDIAN
As soon as the Cartel Revenge Seasonal Event ends on June 4th, we will get another takedown. The theme of Guardian Takedown will be around the Eridian. This free content is designed in various ways to challenge you. Tannis wants to send you on a reconnaissance journey to the planet of Minos Prime in this Takedown. There you can track down the source of the Guardian ‘s mysterious signal. Fresh loot will be collected in the Takedown at the Guardian Breach; weapons, gear, and collectible cosmetics (Character skin, Echo skin, and Room Decoration).
REVENGE OF THE SEASONAL EVENT OF CARTELS
In April, a new seasonal event is coming. You will have to track down and take out cartel operatives in Revenge of the Cartels to earn event-specific rewards.
2.0 MAYHEM MODE
A new version of Mayhem Mode, scheduled to go live in March, is being developed by Gearbox Software. This will get support from the UI, new Mayhem Modifiers that more dramatically change gameplay, playlists from Mayhem, new rewards, and Mayhem’s additional levels to work through. When we get a little bit closer to its release, new info about Mayhem 2.0 will be released. Gearbox has said that instead of nerfing your character, they will focus on buffs only.
- Mayhem Mode 2.0 will add a game with 10 Mayhem Levels.
- Depending on the Mayhem level, all weapons which appear in Mayhem Mode 2.0 will receive a small increase in damage. Players should try every new Mayhem level at which the weapon was acquired and grind for the best
- Mayhem weapons.
- In Mayhem Mode 2.0 there will be 25 new modifiers
- Update: Mayhem Mode 2.0, based on Community Feedback, is getting fine-tuned
GUNS, LOVE, AND TENTACLES: THE WAINWRIGHT & HAMMERLOCK ‘S MARRIAGE
On March 26, 2020, the second DLC campaign for Borderlands 3 will arrive. You will visit the town of Cursehaven on the Ice Planet of Xylourgos in Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock. All of you agreed to meet to celebrate their engagement here. This town was, however, located under the colossal carcass of a fallen Vault Monster. And a band of creepy occultists who worship the carcass of the Vault Monster is hellbent on breaking up the partners who are engaged. It is up to you, ever after, to secure this happily. Luckily, as an old friend is there to help, you are not alone.

SEASONAL EVENTS & NEW TAKEDOWNS
It has also been mentioned that Borderlands 3 will add new events. These can be permanent events such as the Takedown in Maliwan or seasonal events such as the Bloody Harvest. Around Valentine’s Day and Saint Patrick’s Day, Gearbox Software has always been doing something. Therefore, if we were to see themed events around those holidays, it would not surprise me. Just for the Halloween event, Gearbox did not add Maurice. Gearbox Software knows they have to concentrate on end-game content and their response to the hardcore audience is Takedowns.
- Updating:
The event for New Broken Hearts Day goes live on February 13th.
True Takedown Mode allows you to switch between solo or ultimate badass mode to change the difficulty. This goes live in a patch in February.
IMPROVEMENTS Fight for your life
A big part of the co-op experience is Fight for Your Life, and Gearbox has identified a few ways they like to enhance the system. In particular, they are looking at increasing the radius of interaction between players, telegraphing more clearly revives to other players, and allowing multiple players to contribute to a revival. In March, they expect to have this available.
EXPANSIONS ON ECHOCAST TWITCH EXTENSION
Gearbox hopes to introduce a Moxxi-themed event, which they first teased during Guardian Con 2019, that would allow you to use Twitch Bits to mix up buff- or debuff-inducing streamer cocktails. For the ECHOcast Twitch Extension in March, they are aiming to have this ready.
BORDERLANDS 3 FOR 2019 ROADMAP
EVENT of Bloody Harvest
The “Bloody Harvest Event” is the first event that we can expect. This sounds like the Halloween event in the Borderlands is returning to Borderlands 3. So, expect some spooky activities in October and unique event rewards.
TAKEDOWN MALIWAN
You had those invincible bosses in Borderlands 2 that were designed to take on a group of Vault Hunters. Those tasks were called a raid back then, but over time , the definition of a raid has changed. These missions are therefore now defined as ‘Takedown’. The second update for free content is called Maliwan Takedown. This includes an all-new map where new enemies and a new boss will be encountered. During the Maliwan Takedown, which will be playable on November 20, you will be able to gain new powerful rewards.
DLC1 STORY CAMPAIGN
There is the first paid DLC that’s part of the Borderlands 3 Season Pass after these 2 free pieces of content. This will be the first big add-on to the storey campaign, which will possibly be written during the holidays. Although Gearbox and 2 K have not provided any specifics about this, it may be a good chance to bring back some of the characters that have not made it into the main game.
Creative director Paul Sage stated during an interview with ki11six that Gaige won’t be in the Borderlands 3 base game. Paul added, however, that these DLCs will be perfect ways to put everyone’s favourite character back into the timeline of Borderlands 3.
For these campaign add-ons, Randy Pitchford mentioned that they have set the bar high. He said that he was expecting the same high bar as their previous best DLCs. For me personally, and I think it would be Tiny Tina’s Attack on Dragon Keep for many other Borderlands fans. The DLC from Bunkers & Badasses that they developed for Borderlands 2. I would love to see anything like that, where, in this different reality, you are playing. Basically, the Borderlands toybox is turned upsidedown by Gearbox and have fun with their playing.
